The original painting is sold.  Acrylic with cotton gauze, cloth, lotka paper and stiffened string on canvas, 24 w x 48 h inches.

Vertical Space is part of my Tree of Life series, exploring the ecological roles of trees and thereby modernizing the tree symbolism for the critical issues of our day. In this case three dimensional complex relief from sculpted string and paper creates a physicality to the upward sweep of the tree.  This added dimensionality creates a presence while retaining an airy lightness.  The structure of the piece emphasizes the sweep of vertical space and habitats created by foliage and forests, while also highlighting the complexity and fragility of the foliage environment.
